Membership Information
Emeritus Membership may be offered to distinguish surgeons from other countries or distinguished workers from other disciplines who have a special interest in accordance with the objectives of the Association. Such Emeritus Members will not pay the annual subscription.
Full Membership is open to Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons and Associate Specialists with a special interest in sports injuries and / or arthroscopic surgery, as demonstrated in their clinical practice and research or presentation of papers to the Association. The Members will pay a full annual subscription.
Senior Membership will be offered to Members reaching full retirement. They will cease to pay the annual subscription.
Overseas Members may be elected from orthopaedic surgeons residing outside the UK and the Republic of Ireland, who can demonstrate a similar interest to the objectives of the Association. These Members will pay a full annual subscription.
Associate Membership is open to surgical trainees. On attaining Consultant status an Associate Member may apply for full membership but must fulfil the criteria for full membership. Associate Member status shall cease when the trainee has attained Consultant status. These Members will pay a full annual subscription.
Affiliates may be elected from among non-medically qualified members of allied Health Professionals, whose work is consistent with the objectives of the Association. They will pay half of the annual subscription.
Student Membership is open to medical students. They will pay half of the annual subscription. Student Membership status shall cease when the student graduates, at which point membership will change to Associate. When applying for Student Membership, please notify BOSTAA regarding expected year of graduation.
Application for membership should be made to the Honorary Secretary by email or via the website. A mini curriculum vitae may be requested in some cases. The names and confirmation of support from a proposer who is a full member of BOSTAA, should preferably be included with the application. The application will be scrutinised by the Honorary Secretary and membership will be granted only after consideration at a meeting of the Executive of the Society. Exceptionally, the secretary can discuss the application with the president and the vice president and have it approved between meetings.
The selection committee reserves the right to ask for references if no BOSTAA proposer is used.
