British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma and Arthroscopy Association (BOSTAA) Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Lead
The British Orthopaedic Sports Trauma and Arthroscopy Association Society aims to promote equality, diversity and inclusivity for the treatment of our patients and to support clinicians and allied health professionals from varied backgrounds.
Building on work already undertaken in the BOA, this role will take forward the delivery of the BOSTAA Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion strategy, activities and initiatives, which will continue to support our members and drive forward change within T&O.
The following remit shall be held by the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Lead, although all Executive, Trainee and Society members are expected to play their part in upholding and promoting the values of the Society.
The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Lead will assist the society with the following tasks:
- Promote the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion in the activities of the society.
- Increase the diversity of chairs, speakers and invited guests at the annual meeting and other educational events.
- Ensure all society events, conferences, and activities are accessible and inclusive for all attending from diverse backgrounds.
- To assist the board regarding educational content of the society in respect of diversity and inclusion.
- Create a supportive environment where all individuals, regardless of background, feel valued and respected.
- Protect members of the society from discrimination.
- Liaise with National Organisations and affiliated healthcare societies such as the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) to ensure shared goals are identified and implemented.
- Review how communication is carried out to ensure inclusivity regarding the activities of the society.
- To review the membership of the society and advise the board to address issues relating to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
- To encourage development of support and mentoring schemes to encourage under-represented groups of clinicians to apply for leadership roles within the Society.
